Is it possible to buy Salvia divinorum plants from common plant/herb/home stores?
Q: I recently went to an herb garden in southern california and bought a plant that was called salvia discolor. After comparing it to pictures that I've seen on your site, I've noticed that the leaves aren't as round and my plant has a white fuzz on the stems and leaves. The flowers in the buds of the plant are a dark purplish color. Did I purchase salvia divinorum and should I keep growing it?
A: There are many popular species and varieties of Salvia for homes and gardens that are not the same as S. divinorum species. It is very unlikely that any salvia plant you find in a garden store will be S. divinorum. S. divinorum is a somewhat difficult plant to grow and does not grow well wild. There may be sources of plants or cuttings online, but be sure you have quite a green thumb before chosing to buy one.
