What are the dangers of smoking Zoloft, or any other pill?
Q: |
I know that taking zoloft has no known serious side effects and is a fairly harmless drug when taken by mouth. However, i have found that smoking zoloft is extrememly more pleasurable. However i also know that certain substances can turn from harmless to deadly when burned and inhaled. My question is: What are the possible short term and long term negative effects of smoking zoloft as opposed to taking it by mouth? |

Zoloft is made to be taken orally. The oral formulation has been tested repeatedly in animals and in humans to prove that it is safe enough for regular ingestion by those who need it, without any significant side effects. Pills are not a pure pharmaceutical. They are filled with dyes, waxes, fillers, binders, buffers, etc. While theses extra ingredients are often passed harmlessly through the body, ignored, or dealt with quickly when ingested orally, the process of smoking these ingredients may greatly increase the risk that they can cause damage. Additionally, depending on whether you are vaporizing/freebasing the substance or combusting (applying a direct flame) it can cause different compounds to be released (with combustion being usually far worse). I personally would suggest not taking pills in a manner other than the one they were originally formulated for.
