Can you please tell me which organs metabolize the drugs MDMA, GHB, Methamphetamine, Ketamine, & Cocaine?
Q: |
Hi Can you PLEEEAAASSSEEEEE help me?
I am doing research and am unable to find information about which organs metabolize particular recreational substances. Most drugs recreational, as well as pharmaceutical, fall into two categories; substances which are metabolized in the liver or those metabolized in the kidneys. Can you please tell me which organs metabolize the following:
- Ecstasy
- GHB
- Crystal Methamphetamine
- Ketamine
- Cocaine

Actually, just about all metabolisation of drugs and other foreign compounds occurs in the liver. It's possible that enzymes in the intestines (such as monoamine oxidase or MAO) or possibly some in the brain (MAO again, and other enzymes meant to clean up the synapse between neuronal signals) may contribute to drug degradation. The kidneys are merely a filtering and excretion organ. If an unmetabolized drug makes it to the kidney, it will likely be excreted unchanged (as with muscimol in A. muscaria mushrooms).
Ecstasy, GHB, Methamphetamine, Ketamine, & Cocaine are all metabolized primarily by the liver.
