There has been some "GHB" going around where I live lately that smells like kerosene or lighter fluid and it has a rubber like after taste. Also, when you G out on it, you wake up stupid. Like with no common sense or anything. We no longer take this because a girl died from it not to long ago. Any clue as to what this stuff may be? |

What you were taking was very likely gamma-butyrlactone (GBL) also called just 'lactone'. GBL is the primary precursor used to produce GHB. GBL itself has effects very similar to GHB, although most users prefer GHB. It is a thick fluid that has a strong chemical smell and taste and has an oily feel when touched. The taste of the fluid is strongly reminiscent of rubber and one user I spoke with referred to using GBL as "licking the tire".
Straight lactone is also extremely harsh to ingest and can cause discomfort if not mixed in a drink. While most users are aware that GHB is now scheduled in the United States (and thus illegal to possess without a license), many are not aware that GBL is a "listed" chemical and is scheduled in some states (such as California).
It is believed that GBL is converted into GHB in the body and thus all of the GHB risks apply to this chemical as well.
Take care,
