What is "Methedrine"
Q: |
What exactly is methedrine? I've heard that the slang term "speed" refers to a chemical called methedrine, but after searching I found that "speed" is amphetamine or methamphetamine (at least I think). Could you please clear this up for me? |

"Methedrine" is a trade name for a particular brand of Methamphetamine produced by Burroughs-Wellcome Pharmaceuticals in the 60s (and 70s?). It was available both orally (5 mg tablets) and for injection (1cc ampules containing 20 mg).
Since then, "Methadrine" has become a general slang term for Methamphetamine, and as with most slang for Methamphetamine, it sometimes crosses over and is used for Amphetamine. "Speed" is a much more common slang term which is somewhat more equally applied to both Methamphetamine and Amphetamine.
We've seen some references which say the term "Crystal Methedrine" is used as a slang term for MDMA, but we believe this to be a stretch and mostly inaccurate.
For more information about these two chemicals, see our Methamphetamine and Amphetamine Vaults.
