What does the 25 stand for in LSD-25?

What does the "25" mean in LSD-25? A friend told me that there were lots of types of LSD and this was the 25th one that was tested. I read somewhere that there is LSD-49, what is that? |

We have not found a definitive answer to this, but we believe that the 25 is simply a number assigned to the compound as Hofmann was working at Sandoz on new ergotamine derivatives. The incremental number was appended to the abbreviation for the compound, thus LSD (the chemical) dash 25 (the ID for the compound in the series being made).
Thus, LSD-25 is the diethylamide and was the 25th in the series. The morpholide might have been LSM-34, for instance (we actually have no idea). Another derivative might have been LHE-19, another might have been LMM-35. So there weren't any other LSD-XXs in our current understanding of the Sandoz research.
Therefore, there would have been no LSD-49, and is none now. It is probably a black market marketing gimmick. There might have been an LBA-49, or an LSE-49, or an LLW-49, but no LSD-49.
