Are 1,4 Butanediol, Butylene glycol, or gamma-Butyrlactone legal to possess in Australia?
Q: Are 1,4 Butanediol, Butylene glycol, or gamma-Butyrlactone legal to possess in Australia?
A: The Australian Narcotic Substances Regulations entry for GHB specifically lists "4-Hydroxybutanoic acid, its salts and esters".

Gamma-Butyrlactone is an ester of GHB, so it seems that it is illegal to possess under Australian law. We have heard of one case being prosecuted in Australia for importation of gamma-Butyrlactone.

Butylene glycol is another name for 1,4 Butanediol.



1,4 Butanediol is closely related to GHB (see Molecule Comparison). We don't know of any specific cases of 1,4B possession being prosecuted. Until it happens it's difficult to know how Australian courts would handle such a case.
