What is the cannabis taxonomy?
Q: What is the cannabis taxonomy?

A: There is some dispute as to what is the correct classification for Cannabis. Most commonly, the genus/species of cannabis is considered to be Cannabis sativa, with a large number of varieties within that species. But there are also some who argue that the cannabis genus should be split into three species: sativa, indica, and ruderalis.

In the most common understanding, Indica and Sativa are both varieties of the Cannabis sativa species, then there are even more hybrids within those varieties. Most of the names you'll hear for types of cannabis, such as northern lights or kush or purple haze are varieties bred for specific qualities.
