100 mg | oral | Modafinil |
T+ 5:00 | repeated | oral | Alcohol - Beer/Wine |
BODY WEIGHT: | 65 kg |
Background Info:
a) I typically use 200mg Modalert for a session of study. It has noticeably strong effects.
b) I am an extreme lightweight. Not only am I 65kg but my alcohol tolerance is low as it is. I have passed out twice before, but with significant amounts of spirits (about 14 shots).
This took place on a Saturday.
1:30pm: I used 100mg of modafinil (half my normal study dose) to go to tutoring.
6:30pm: I start drinking for going out that night. 2 beers. An entire chicken burger and chips.
7.30pm to 10pm: I had 1 more beer and 3 flutes of champagne (totalling about 8 Australian Standard Drinks). No spirits. I felt totally fine - like a normal night out. Halfway between tipsy and drunk. I had basically forgotten about the modafinil.
10pm: From here on in, I totally forgot what occurred.
10pm to 1am: I can't recall any of this, but I use reports from friends/photos/videos. I was obscenely drunk. I couldn't stand up, even when commanded. I was vomiting and intermittently passing out. I began to vomit in my sleep. An ambulance was called. I vomited on the inside of ambulance.
1am: The first memory I have is of an IV drip being inserted into my arm, which was quite painful.
1am - 7am: I slept, albeit poorly. A few checks had been done: for my eyes, for motor control and for clarity of mind. I checked out of hospital at around 7am.
The rest of the day: the worst hangover ever. Even after the drip, which is meant to be the most effective way of detoxifying blood (see: Hangover Heaven Bus), I felt bad.
For most of Sunday I thought I had just drunk too much. Which was especially weird considering I had a large meal beforehand and, compared to other experiences, not all that much alcohol. Not even any spirits.
It was then I remembered the modafinil and a YouTube documentary warning against combining modafinil and alcohol. I looked into it, and saw other reports of this exact same thing happening: people being okay and then halfway through the night, forgetting everything.
