This report summarizes three experiences with 5-MeO-DALT. Since all three uses of this drug took place almost two years prior to this writing, I have included only those details which I remember clearly. It is my hope that the observations in this report will be of some value, however small, to researchers and physicians in the future as well as to potential users.
Please note that in these experiences are some of the poorest decisions I have ever made, in particular, mixing an unknown drug with alcohol.
Substance and dose: The drug was obtained through an online vendor. In all three cases, a dose of approximately 80mg was measured on a jewelry scale and taken orally with water. In the second two experiences, alcohol was also ingested. Although I cannot say how much, it could not have been more than 4 drinks over the course of an evening, since I never drink heavily. I was taking no medication at the time.
Experience 1:
Set and Setting: Bedroom. Alone. Well lit without any particularly colorful or stimulating light sources.
Mental Status: Notably anxious. This was my first experience with the drug and my heart rate was elevated before ingestion.
Physical Status: Fit. No significant past medical history. I had not eaten dinner. I don't remember why.
As I said, these experiences took place almost two years ago, so I unfortunately cannot remember the exact timing of events. In an attempt to still be helpful, the following is a list of the physical symptoms in the order in which they were experienced and the estimated duration of each.
Tingling Sensation: A tingling sensation began in both feet soon after ingestion.
A tingling sensation began in both feet soon after ingestion.
Nausea: A sudden and intense nausea was experienced probably about an hour after swallowing the drug. This was transient and only lasted about a minute.
Improvement of Sound Quality: Immediately after taking the drug, I began listening to one of my favorite bands - Rush. Around the same time as experiencing the nausea, I noticed that the music was as clear as I had ever heard music before. I could attend to each note and each instrument all at the same time. This was incredible to experience and very pleasurable. It is hard to say how long this lasted.
Visual Hallucination: I noticed that when I looked directly at a light source such as my overhead lamp, which was not too bright or uncomfortable to do, I saw around the edges there were growing what I will describe as long, tortuous hairs. They were bright white with segments of neon blue and green and would wiggle for about a second before disappearing and being replaced by others. This effect was also very brief.
Visual Aura/Auditory Hallucination: This was the last effect of the drug that I experienced and is definitely the most remarkable because it was somewhat under my control. Laying in bed and looking at the ceiling I felt that the room had become darker. Suddenly the room began to go darker and lighten very quickly and each change was accompanied by a loud click, like a strobe light was on in the corner somewhere. I remember making that exact analogy at the time. I was startled by this and the effect immediately stopped. When I calmed myself down by focusing on the tingling sensation, which was considerable now, my eyes went out of focus and the strobe light and clicking returned. Eventually, I discovered that this effect was controlled by the muscles in my eye and I had fun starting and stopping the strobe-light effect for a while.
This whole experience could not have lasted more than three hours. Eventually, the auditory and visual effects of the drug subsided leaving just the tingling which disappeared as I have already mentioned. One final observation of note is that the return to normality as the drug wore off was sudden. It felt as if I had just woken up from a restful sleep, aside from a lingering tingling in the feet which went away soon afterwards.
Experience 2:
Set and Setting: Nighttime. Walking around with friends in various places including a field and a busy loggia.
Mental Status: Slightly anxious.
Symptoms:
Tingling Sensation: The tingling sensation was exactly as before, beginning in the feet and progressing up to the arms and hands.
Disinhibition: Words seem to flow easily and communication feels more natural than usual.
Euphoria: About a half-hour after taking the drug, I began to feel giddy. Taking a deep breath causes a rush of euphoric feeling and exaggerates the tingling so that I felt it everywhere on my body below the neck.
About an hour and a half after ingestion, I begin drinking alcohol. The tingling sensation and euphoria quickly disappeared, and I became suddenly aware of their absence.
No nausea was noticed.
Experience 3:
Set and Setting: Nighttime. At first a crowded party, but later on my bedroom.
Mental Status: Slightly anxious.
Symptoms:
Tingling Sensations: The tingling sensation began exactly as before.
Unfortunately, I began drinking soon after taking the drug and did not experience any other symptoms aside from the tingling. Although, later while lying on my bed and looking at the ceiling I notice that by letting my eyes go out of focus it appears to be snowing in my room. The flakes are small but highly reflective. This effect lasts for a few minutes.
Summary: The only consistent feature of this drug, at least for me, is the onset of tingling. It begins in the feet and ascends to the hands and arms. When it disappears it descends from the hands back to the feet. It seems that the drug interacts with alcohol, although I cannot say how.
