But I met a lady who frowned on these activities, and I mended my ways…It is no longer 1973 but 2013 and I haven’t touched anything stronger than Tim Horton’s Dark Roast, until tonight.
I have to amend that a bit.
About two weeks ago, I tried to make a snuff of Anadenanthera colubrina var. cebil seeds, without the proper equipment. I roasted the seeds (3) in a skillet until I heard a pop. I wondered if I should wait to hear more pops since there were (3) seeds but decided to turn off the heat. I had a spoon, and a small bread loaf pan as my mortar and pestle. Don’t laugh. Ok. Laugh. I admit I was unprepared and in a way-too-much of an anticipatory state. The seeds separated nicely from the shells. I crushed the light brown seeds with spoon as best I could. There was a strong hint of peanuts, which make sense since it comes from a legume. I just couldn’t get it into a powder like everyone else talks about, and I didn’t have the edible lime (calcium hydroxide) that I now know helps with the release of active ingredients though mucous membrane in the human body.
Anyway, as I said, I’m excited. I have the house to myself for a few hours, and this is supposed to last for a short time. Perfect. So, my best attempt is to stuff (yes, I said stuff, not snuff) the crushed cebil into my nostrils and was quite successful in doing so without letting any get down my throat except for a tiny bit that told I would NOT like it if it got any further. I had no interest in nausea so I held the stuff in. Wow, talk about a mucus alert….Snot city. Yuck. However, I left it in…I waited….and waited….and waited….yep…. nothing. I didn’t do it right.
So I ordered 100 grams of calcium hydroxide from a fabulous ethno botanical store (online). Then I crushed my next batch of 3 seeds I used less than half the height of a pencil eraser. I probably have 100,000 dosages left. 100mg would have been more than I will ever need for the rest of my life. I also bought a real mortar and pestle. Actually, two of them because clumsy me dropped the hammer and it shattered on the concrete basement floor. Super glue worked, but it looked bad so I bought the other one. Like $$ grows on trees…says I.
When the right time came I roasted the three seeds, but this time after the first pop, I waited longer to hear another, but no other seeds popped after about 2 minutes. So off goes the heat. This extra time in the skillet made the seeds & shells brittle and I had a heck of a time separating the shells, so I said what the heck and crushed the seeds and shells and that tiny pinch of lime together in the mortar. After crushing everything into a fine powder, I added a tiny amount of distilled water (about 5 drops) to the mix and set it on the furnace to dry. After about an hour it was dry enough to powder again and had turned a darker brown, which I presumed was from the seed coats. Then it sat on a library shelf until 8:30pm today.
I have wanted to remember what it was like to trip; maybe I have been under an extreme amount of stress and need a release.
I have wanted to remember what it was like to trip; maybe I have been under an extreme amount of stress and need a release.
Therefore, down to the basement I go to get the mortar. I check the condition of the powder and find it sufficient. I get my green straw (which had been cut in half) and in rapid succession snort the powder up one nostril, then the other. Friend, the pain is there, I presume from the lime, or the shells and I can’t do it all at once. I sniff some more through each nostril as the pain increases, a little at a time until there is only about a small amount left ; about the size of my little fingernail. By now, the pain is shooting to back of my head. There is no heavy mucus attack like the first time and I am struggling to keep swallowing the snuff. Well, I figure. The deed is done. You old fart; you’ve gone and inhaled a bunch of psychedelic Amazonian peanut butter snuff. Geez.
So I head upstairs and by the seventh step, I feel something coming on. I struggle to the couch; I can barely walk. Other people talk about heaviness. Dang, forget the heaviness. I was wobbling about like a lunatic, having NO coordination. I flop on the couch, closed my eyes, and saw some amazing intense closed eye visuals. Then the intensity just whammed home and I vaguely heard that DMT whine some people talk about, but the geometric patterns were so involved I didn’t pay that much attention to it.
I felt sick to my stomach, but I could not move. These visual were the most unusual I have ever seen; intensely geometric but at the same time I saw people and animals moving throughout. What I did for the next hour and a half I can’t tell you, because I don’t remember. I do remember the kaleidoscope, pulsating, rapid display of the most beautiful, colorful CEV’s, almost mechanical in their intensity. I did not like the nausea; I never threw up but thought I might feel better if I did. I kept telling myself that this would only last a short time and that helped a bit.
No one has ever mentioned the cebil seed are a powerful diuretic. From 8:30pm to 10pm I’ll bet I pee’d four times and four more time throughout the night; as if I had drunk a gallon of coffee. On one of my trips to the basement bathroom I found myself at the toilet and the next thing I noticed I was at the computer, and this repeated a few times. It’s only a distance of about 15 feet but I don’t remember going from one to the other. Sitting at the computer, wishing this would end, I noticed a split vision effect. The screen was visible but brighter and the dark space above and to the left of the monitor was filled with the ever changing OEV’s. I think the nausea was a real disappointment and if there was to be any conscious enjoyment of the experience that in itself ruined it.
I can’t imagine the trip lasting any longer than it did. How did I endure the six, 8 or 12 hours on LSD? I remember the 500mcg Berkeley Orange Barrels of the 70’s and, dang, those would leave me in another world for a very long time.
For some reason, be it the stress of work and/or family, or reviewing my past or realizing my mortality, I felt drawn to experiment with ethnobotanicals and have always been interested in the natural psychedelics. I tried Ayahuasca twice, following the correct procedures and had no effects whatsoever. I noticed many people were having intense experiences with Cebil seeds, of which I have 60 seeds. I also have Syrian Rue and Chagropanga, and Banisteriopsis extract, all of which are waiting in the wings to try.
Well, to summarize: (3) seeds were powerful, I needed a small pinch of lime (I have enough for everyone on the planet for the next 100 years), a few drops of water to mix and something for the nausea. I made sure my nostrils were moist. The pain hurts, but it’s not unbearable. It is more like the pain of brain freeze, and more of a stinging sensation than anything else is. Two and half hours and its pretty much over. I mixed the seeds shells with the seeds and lime; that may have increased the pain, but it did not diminish the effects. Then it went very quickly for an intense entrance into a circus of silliness for the next hour and a half.
I doubt I will do it again for the main reason I did not get anything out of it but the desire to puke. The visuals were powerful if you like that sort of thing, but I am more into an introspective experience and this was a merry-go-round; I am surprised I did not hear a calliope in the whirling tornado of patterns…..Peace.
