I was prescribed valium, but did not feel it did anything.

In April 2013, I went into my GP's office because I felt like my heartbeat was off, it felt oddly fluttery, and I had shoulder and back pain and spasms. I was making myself very anxious thinking it might be a heart attack, even tho I was pretty sure it wasn't.

The doctor who saw me (not my usual doctor as it was an urgent visit, so I was seen by whoever was available) did some tests including an ekg, and told me that it was not a heart attack.

Due to my anxiety about the situation and the muscle pain, the doctor prescribed me valium, 5mg to be taken up to 3 times a day. I was told it would help me relax and was good for muscle spasms. When I got home, I took a single 5mg pill (it had been 4 or 6 hours since I'd eaten last, but I was well hydrated). After an hour, I felt virtually no different. My shoulder and back pain were *maybe* a little bit better, but that could have just been from being home and sitting down reading.

I'm well aware that standard medicine dosages are calculated based on a 160 pound man, and with most medicines I have to take 50 or 100 percent more of the drug (eg 750 or 1000mg instead of 500) to get the expected results and duration. So an hour after I took a second pill.

That pill also did not produce any noticable results after an hour (two hours after the first pill.) I sat for several more hours reading until bedtime, then went to bed. I did not fall asleep any more easily then usual. I've since tried valium several more times when I was having muscle pain/spasms, and have never noticed any results. I keep hoping it will do me some good, given its reputation, but I don't seem to react to it.
