Gabapentin/Neurontin and Me

I broke my back a few years ago, about 3, at age 24, and have been on many prescriptions to include tramadol, Cyclobenzaprine, baclofen and many NSAID's. These worked, but only for a few hours, if taken as prescribed. My doctor, an Army Major, said he didn't want me taking Narcotics because I was so young. I was then discharged from the military and was prescribed gabapentin from the VA.

My first experience with Gabapentin was a 700mg tab that was given to me from a friend. It helped with the pain after about 1.5 hours. But over time I went up to 1400mg to relieve my pain.

Now I am prescribed 400mg daily in capsules. Two 100mg caps twice a day. I usually take three 100mg caps in the morning and I'm good all day. The effects aren't felt until an hour has elapsed. For a 'not often' abused drug, this one is fantastic. I never feel withdrawal, I've been taking/prescribed them for almost 4 months, and I never crave them.

I have an extremely high tolerance for pharms. I can and have snorted an oxyContin 80mg and still function with no signs of impairment to people who don't know me. My wife says she can tell, but we've been together for 8 years and she knows me better than anyone else.

Obvious effects/ side effects: (my experiences)
They relieve my lower back pain that is constantly there, 400mg
They almost feel like speed if taken in medium doses, 800mg ish
They made me feel drunk like with impaired coordination and movement, 1200-1800mg

There were no after effects once I woke the next morning, other than feeling great and starting my day pain free.
