I was expecting this to be a mostly new experience for me considering that the only other tryptamine in this class I had taken was 4-AcO-DMT, but I did have some minor expectations or at least theories about what it might be like. For me, the 4-AcO-DMT experience is very similar to the one I get from DMT, particularly in that it starts out with what I'll refer to as the breakthrough pattern. It's basically this big tunnel-like fractal collage containing various concepts and entities that reach out to me or try to get my attention or interact with me, and both DMT and 4-AcO-DMT for me start with this appearing very suddenly and just hitting me with all of this sensory information. When I smoke DMT it all happens so quickly that I just see an endless amount of possible situations playing out in front of me, but the 4-AcO-DMT happens a bit more slowly and is a little more neon or alien compared to the very realistic hallucinations I see on DMT. After that point, my experience on 4-AcO-DMT starts to pan out into something more similar to mushrooms. Mushrooms are actually the only other psychedelic to have ever shown me the breakthrough pattern as well, once on a 5 g dose, but it had a very different flavor of trip and hallucinations as it shares this strong sexual energy with the other 4-hydroxylated N,N-dialkyltryptamines. The end phase of the 4-AcO-DMT was like that but a little less intense, while the first phase was much more similar to DMT. With this in mind, I had wondered if perhaps something about the 4-acetoxy group can shift a tryptamine back towards DMT-like effects somehow, and if this would apply to 4-AcO-MET as well.
I had decided to take a shower after dosing as I often do, and I remember feeling that it was kicking in very quickly similarly to 4-AcO-DMT. I was starting to become very anxious and a little delirious, and a bit nauseous. I remembered all of these things too from 4-AcO-DMT and was wondering if they might have been specific to it, but I guess it might be a thing with the class because I normally don't feel these things on most psychedelics. In the same vein as all that, I was starting to feel sedated as well, but my mind was being overwhelmed with information. I felt like I was becoming so stimulated in my senses that it was almost becoming painful, and I had a good deal of head pressure, though that's not uncommon for me on somewhat difficult psychedelic experiences. I decided that I needed to chill out, so I got out of the shower and decided to load myself a little nitrous in bed.
When I closed my eyes in the darkness, I could see the breakthrough pattern clear as day. This 4-AcO-MET actually seemed bit more potent than 4-AcO-DMT by weight, because I was getting it even more vividly this time on the former than I ever have on the latter. I was not incredibly surprised by this though, as 4-HO-MET was a good deal more visual than mushrooms (in specific ways) for me. The pattern again had a sort of neon glow, it looked more synthetic than 4-AcO-DMT. It also had a sexual overtone to it that I don't quite get with either 4-AcO-DMT or DMT, but not really in the same way that mushrooms does; it was still mostly similar to DMT in the way the hyperspace was organized. I would have been enjoying this probably quite a bit if it weren't for the fact that all of my sensory systems felt like they were being burned out from overactivation.
I would have been enjoying this probably quite a bit if it weren't for the fact that all of my sensory systems felt like they were being burned out from overactivation.
I ended up going out into the nearly pitch black living room and just lying on the floor or up against the couch in silence and staring around the room. Everything in the room was strongly distorting and warping around and turning into shadows in a way not unlike high doses of LSD for me. It was maybe around an hour in now and the character of the trip was starting to shift similarly to 4-AcO-DMT. Instead of just being the sensory overload tunnel, I was starting to get visions that were much more fleshed out, and they were beginning to reach an awe-inspiring level of beauty. My entire sense of my environment both visually and in my mind's eye was filled with an intense rushing sensation that was flipping several different camera angles that I was viewing all simultaneously in many different directions around whatever was the focus of my senses. The hallucinations that I was seeing in the dark room were highly defined like I was in a virtual reality world, there were gridlines everywhere and perceptions of people with dark skin colors like tones of blues and greens and purples. The most similar visuals I can compare this to that I've experienced is taking moderately high doses of LSD and mushrooms at the same time. The mental imagery I was getting was starting to move in a direction a lot like 4-HO-MET in theme, but a bit more unique in visual design. Whereas 4-HO-MET generated human imagery with a similar abstract design to LSD, 4-AcO-MET for me kept more in line with a realism comparable to DMT, but just more synthetic-feeling and sexual. Most often they consisted of girls in long flowing robes with this emotion of being like some kind of goddess, or they would girls in something like neon swimwear, and as these images would pass through my mind they would be picked up the patterns my eyes were searching for in my hallucinated environment and just become one big part of the madness along with everything else.
While all of this was happening, the way my body was feeling had started to change drastically. First of all, I didn't feel physically overwhelmed by what was going on around me anymore, and my head pressure was fading. I was able to put on some music and trippy visualizers and actually get into it and enjoy it, and that enhanced my mood a lot. My tremors also went away, but the body high was building up very quickly. I had probably more energy than I ever have on a tryptamine or even most drugs in general before, and I was feeling waves of warmth just flowing out from my heart and causing these orgasmic sensations to travel all throughout my body and just make me feel totally peaceful and content. The whole thing felt very sexual and hedonistic like 4-HO-MET, and I think it may have actually been my most visual trip ever, but unlike 4-HO-MET at least the one time I've tried it so far, there was actually a much deeper psychological aspect to the trip was well which fell in line with teacher vibe of 4-AcO-DMT, DMT, and mushrooms. The mindset had developed into something that was incredibly empathogenic like LSD in that it let me observe my own life and others' from several different perspectives or objectively and my train of thought jumped effortlessly from one point to the next in figuring out how I should work to better myself and my life. My parents also popped up here and there including in the visuals, which I have noticed for 4-AcO-DMT and DMT but not mushrooms. It felt like I was being fed a very vast amount of information at once with a theme that I know how to keep moving forward properly in life and that I need to stick to that. There was also a lot of focus on my physical health, which is a part of my DMT trips almost every time I smoke it.
I did a big balloon of nitrous to have fun with the visuals some more. As I was inhaling it, the rushing sensation became so strong and yet at the same I dissociated from it, it started feeling like the room was just flip-flopping all over the place and I was just watching it all go down and giggling to myself. There was a lot of laughter with this 4-AcO-DMT, though not as much as 4-HO-MET or maybe even LSD, at least from this one experience. Eventually I couldn't hold in the energy anymore and I got up to dance, thinking that it would probably be pretty awesome with the way I was feeling. It was definitely the most invigorating dancing I've ever done, I was able to create all sorts of extremely complex patterns with my movements which always helps me get into a heavy trance and just enjoy the rhythm of the psychedelic to the fullest. 4-HO-MET was great for dancing but I'm not sure I would say that it's better than LSD just yet, but I would definitely say that 4-AcO-MET was. I totally want to time a trip on this stuff perfectly so that I can go to a rave some time during this phase, I think it would be absolutely incredible. Despite the intensity of a lot of what was going on the trip, the whole thing was still pretty clearheaded. At least, I knew where I was and what was going on at all times. That might have been different at the beginning at higher doses, but for the rest of the trip I don't think it would be hard to function at all.
I don't really recall the exact time now, but I want to say that it was some time between five and seven hours that I ended up falling asleep in bed effortlessly. It seemed to have an effect on me similar to 4-AcO-DMT where even though the second phase of the trip is quite stimulating, it still feels less overwhelming than the first part so it doesn't necessarily keep me up if I don't want it to or if I'm just already exhausted. I had a peaceful sleep, and I woke up feeling great the next day.
Overall, I really liked 4-AcO-MET. The beginning was a bit difficult, but like DMT I feel that if I actually work on myself in the way it made me think about then I will be rewarded with more euphoric experiences in the future. In the end I found it to be useful for a number of reasons, it's an intense visual trip with some actual psychological depth while still having a great energetic and recreational side to it as well. I've definitely added it to the list of tryptamines I'd like to get to know much more intimately.
