DOSE:
T+ 0:00
10 mg oral 4-AcO-DET (liquid)
  T+ 0:00 1 glass oral Alcohol - Beer/Wine
T+ 1:34 1 cart. inhaled Nitrous Oxide (gas)
BODY WEIGHT: 180 lb
I had planned to go cut trees for firewood and mushroom logs this weekend, but found out my parents needed a house-sitter for their holiday trip to see family down south. I decided to stay at their house and care for their cat as well as their aging dog (Daisy), who has suffered multiple strokes in recent months and is in overall declining health. Several years ago, when I was still living with my parents, Daisy incurred a leg injury that prevented her from going up and down the staircase to her usual sleeping spot. For several nights in a row I built a fire in the fireplace and we slept next to it together. I decided to take this opportunity to relive that experience, as we both seemed to enjoy it quite thoroughly, and this may be my last chance to spend significant time with her. I planned to deepen the experience with a low-moderate dose of a psychedelic drug, and settled on 10mg of ethacetin (4-AcO-DET). I chose this chemical due to its relatively short duration and novelty. I have only tried it once before, at 5mg, not including 0.5mg and 1mg tests for allergy and ruling out a more potent chemical such as one of the NBOMEs or DOx.

I arrived at my parents' house around 12:30pm, ate a light meal, then headed outside to split some fairly dry silver maple firewood for about half an hour. I brought a stack to the hearth of the fireplace, started a small fire with some old tinder dry red oak, then took a quick shower. Upon returning to the fireplace I added more logs, put on an ESPRIT (a vaporwave artist I have been fancying recently) album, and re-read the 4-AcO-DET primer.

At 3pm I spiked a beer (New Belgium's Fat Tire) with 10ml of a 1mg/1ml ethacetin solution in 25% ethanol. I sipped the beer over the course of an hour to smooth the comeup. I use a similar regimen with mushrooms, sipping tea over a period of time rather than eating them all at once. For me it tends to reduce the nausea and anxiety that I often experience during the onset of 4-substituted tryptamines.

At 3:30pm I changed the music to Galimatias, an artist my sister-in-law introduced me to recently. I was halfway through my dose, and feeling the first alerts. These manifested as a slight congested feeling in my nose and throat (common for me on most tryptamines), increased saturation of color, and an almost-imperceptible jaw and muscle tension.

T+0:40
I notice that my legs are more jittery than usually. I find myself getting 'lost' in the music more easily, especially during Galimatias' 'Pretty Thoughts'.

T+0:46
The comeup is quite confortably slow. I feel calm and collected.

T+0:58
I start to feel cold, even though the fire is freshly stoked and the temperature is around 68F. I put a flannel shirt on under my hoody, a wool knit hat on my head, and all is well.

T+1:01
The drink is finished.

T+1:17
Everything is alive. Everything is breathing. Everything is friendly. Typing is difficult.

T+1:22
The variability of psychedelics never ceases to amaze me. Whereas last time (5mg) I felt 'clenched' and separated from the rest of the world, right now I feel like I am melting into everything I touch.

T+1:29
I stepped out into the rain to gather firewood. What seemed like an eternity apparently wasn't, as it appears this entry is only 7 minutes after my last. I am now changing my playlist to CYBERREALITY. (What tense was I writing all this in?)

T+1:34
I inhale a nitrous cartridge at the beginning of CYBEREALITY's 'Windows 95 Mind Travel Software'. I lean back in my chair as my torso contracts to a mathematical line with no thickness. I spin once in the chair, slowly, as I drift through the food court of my mind. I am sitting alone in an empty shopping mall. I am brought back to reality by an impossible noise from above, forgetting about my current proximity to the airport.

T+1:37
The time dilation is absurd. Beautifully so, but absurd.

T+1:38
I am now reading articles about tripsitting during crisis events (why isn't this unsettling right now?) while eating Triscuits. Daisy is here with me, sharing a piece of each one. The loud DIET COKE commercial on Spotify would feel entirely out of place if I was listening to anything other than vaporwave. Better yet, the next song to come on is 'Private Caller' by Saint Pepsi. Accidental satire is the highest form of ass-hattery.

T+1:45
Other experimenters have commented that this substance lacks 'depth'. I think I am beginning to understand what they mean. On other 4-subs I might be contemplating my place in the universe, on the edge of an existential crisis. This feels luscious, more tactile and inviting. This may all be subjective. I might feel completely different the next time I take it.

'I will miss you when you're gone. You really are my favorite. I'm glad we've had so much time together. Thank you for growing up with me.' Tears. More gratitude than sadness. Color Ocean by Vektroid in the background.

T+1:55
FUCK DIET COKE THIS TIME

T+2:01
'CALM DOWN' by Vektroid worked exactly as intended. I take my phone out of airplane mode to text my wife: 'All is well. Two hours in.'

T+2:09
Following the Wiki path info informs me that Myron Stolaroff died almost two years ago. All of my heroes are dying. At least I got to meet E.O. Wilson. I can't wait to see who inspires the next generation. I hope I can help.

T+2:29
I venture outside again to grab an overnight log for the fire, the satisfying crunch of sleet underfoot. I feel like this is where I'm supposed to be.

T+2:38
'High School' by Navigateur touches something inside me.

T+2:43
I feel like I am coming down as smoothly as I came up.

T+3:07
Music changed to The Barr Brothers' 'Sleeping Operator' album. Reading about Wilhelm Reich. The theories of early psychoanalysts haven't all stood the test of time. They say more about the originators than of humans in general.

T+3:51
Nearly back to baseline. The speed of this one is remarkable.
