Heads up: Classic first time taking any psychedelic story.

A friend, let’s call him S., and I, relatively experienced in taking MDMA/Ecstasy among other pills etc., had got word from a friend that we would usually buy said drugs from that he had a new lot that had “trips” in them. Obviously S. and I, the adventure seekers we are, thought “yeah sure, we’ll get 2 each and have a sick night”.

Little did we know each pill contained some amount of an unknown psychedelic; neither of us had any experience in psychedelics similar to this; so you can imagine how the night could have gone if we had taken the whole 2 pills we had previously intended to. (We only had half of one each)

At around 10pm S. and I got ourselves nice and set up in S’ garage/granny flat, watching Workaholics on his TV while smoking a bit of weed. We decide to take half of one each as we still were unsure of the effects of this drug so we didn’t want to take both straight up.

We lined ourselves up 2 decently sized lines of a half a pill each, and snorted them. Not really worrying about what I was about to experience, I sat and returned to watching TV and proceeded to roll myself a cigarette.

While this was going on I was watching Workaholics and I found I was becoming more and more invested in the characters of the show’s feelings, like I was feeling their emotions, but on a much more dramatic scale.

Funnily enough, the particular episode I was watching they had taken mushrooms and the point I was at in the episode was right when they started to “feel it” just as I was. This made me quite uncomfortable, so I drew my attention away from the TV to a guitar that was leaning up against the TV cabinet, this was when I started to realize what was going on. The neck of the guitar was bending and warping before my eyes, I looked to the cigarette I had just began to smoke and it appeared to be drooping/melting from my fingers so I panicked and flung it from my hand the same way you would if a spider was crawling on you.

This was all no more than 5 minutes after taking it. Next thing I noticed, a rush of overwhelming energy surged through me, unlike anything I had experienced before. This made me feel very uncomfortable so I sat up from the couch and instantly threw up on the floor in front of where S. and I were sitting. The pile of vomit seemed to be swirling and breathing, looking at it made me feel uneasy, I felt very overwhelmed by the state I was in, so I turned to S., told him “I’m sorry about the vomit on your floor, but I can’t deal with that right now”, and he was in a similar state to me so he understood as we both got up and began wondering around the garage frantically.

I took my shirt off and ran to the bathroom to look at myself, I was coated in sweat, my pupils were dilated to an extreme extent, which at the time I kind of found amusing and funny, which was a nice step back in to reality for a minute. I began running my hands through my hair (which was quite long at the time) and it felt amazing and strange all at the same time. When I was doing this I would look into the mirror and I could see an infinite amount of what looked like small bugs crawling from the ends of my hair when I ran my hands through it, which I would have previously thought would have been terrifying, but again I found it kind of amusing.

I left the bathroom back to the TV area and in my absence S. had left the room for some reason, and that’s where things got a bit strange.

I began to panic, I didn’t have S. there to keep me grounded; running around the place, I opened the door to outside, it was dark and appeared horrifying beyond belief, so I shut the door and went back inside.

From seeing this I became even more panicked and tried to rush towards S.’ bedroom, but from the panic of rushing around and not being able to find him, the trip had gotten to a point where everything I was looking at was curling in on itself, I couldn’t focus on anything, the room around me was impossibly closing in. I had complete tunnel vision, I couldn’t see a thing besides what was directly in my line of sight.

Stumbling towards S. bedroom door I reached it somehow, but I could not for the life of me find the door handle, so I was just kind of patting around the door hoping to find a way to get through it. Then, much to my delight, S. opens the door from the other side. Turns out he was just freaking out in his bedroom, and was just as happy to see me.

We exchange a few words and (to my understanding) pretty much communicate to each other that we both believe we have slipped from our own reality into some kind of alternate dimension where anything is possible.

By this point we had both retreated to lie on his bed, but in the mishaps of getting into the bed, we had knocked his alarm clock upside down; which may seem like a pretty easy situation to make sense of, but we had already convinced ourselves we were in another dimension, so not being able to make sense of the time on the clock, just further confirmed our idea of being in another dimension.

I will always remember the moment I looked at the clock, and so did S., and I turned to him and said “We’re on tripping time now”, and the both of us completely agreed that is what had happened, no questions asked.

With the acceptance I was in this new found dimension I laid down put my head into the pillow. The blackness of the pillow covering my eyes sort of swallowed me.

I then proceeded to have the most profound out-of-body experience I have ever had. I was being guided around the inner workings of my brain and this dimension I believed I was in by entities I can only describe as residents of this alternate dimension who had an infinite understanding of the universe and proceeded to guide me around this new-found world teaching me everything and anything, all of which I could completely understand at the time, although looking back, I can’t even come close to being able to describe the method of communication, let alone the information I was given.

Being shown parts of this strange reality by these “residents” they would briefly slip me back into reality from time to time to show me the comparison. I must add that these “residents” were completely unfathomable in every sense of the word. They seemed like they were literally souls bound by nothing more than their own imagination, and in this moment so was I.

They would take me to see what these souls looked like in our dimension. Each time I would meet a new resident, I would be given a glimpse of what they looked like in our reality. One in particular I remember was a dribbling mess of a homeless person, but in this alternate reality he was a god amongst them, as If his human body had been completely left as a mess with no sense of self; but his “soul” had transcended into a state of complete control and perfection.

This whole situation lasted about 3-4 hours, but I can’t say this with any accuracy, considering I had no reference to normal time and this whole situation felt like about a year of my life.

I momentarily returned to my normal self and saw S., pacing the room, his face was morphing in and out of what I can only describe as a biomechanical gear-like pattern that would recede under his skin when I focused on it. I didn’t feel the need to tell him, I just thought he knew it was like that so I didn’t bring it up.

It had been about 5 hours since the trip began, I looked back to the clock, it was still upside down and this confirmed to me I was in this alternate dimension still. Although looking back at it, I can remember it was an upside down 4 that was causing this confusion.

I thought I would return to lying down. Within moments I was shot back out of my body and proceeded to go through more indescribable scenarios in this world with endless possibilities. The only thought I had in my head that was keeping me sane at this point in time was “don’t worry, S. knows.” Which was completely untrue, and doesn’t really make sense, but I didn’t say anything to him, so in my own self-created reality that fact was absolute and I didn’t question it.

Another half an hour or so had passed and we had begun the descent back to reality. S. turned the light on in his room, we still had very intense visuals, the walls looked like they were melting everything I was seeing before but I was looking at them with a new perspective on it all. It felt like coming out the other side of a war; we could see the battlefield and all of the destruction it had left, but there was no battle to be afraid of any more. I was able to make sense of it all now.

We soon realized what had happened with the clock and had a bit of a laugh about it, then ventured back out into the TV area.

I have taken LSD on several occasions since then, but still to this day I have never seen such beauty, everything was glistening with such vibrant colour. Patterns in the walls and the concrete floor would move around in an unconceivable fashion. Everything in the world made sense at this point, I felt like I had been given every piece of information I could ever need. My thoughts were instantaneous, like anything I could ever want to know was just being handed to me.

S. and I just sat around chatting for the next hour or so while the effects slowly wore off, until I eventually passed out at around 5:30 – 6am.
