My friends and I had been considering trying shrooms but settled on 4-HO-MET because it was supposed to be similar and it is technically legal. It came in a powder, so we suspended it in propylene glycol so that we could measure it properly. We took it at 6pm and it started working about 20 minutes in, and lasted until about 10:30 (4.5 hours).
We measured out our doses, and mixed it with water. It had the distinct taste of envelope glue. We then sat down in my friend’s hot room and started watching Boss Baby.
About 20 minutes in, I had to start looking away because the sensory overload of the movie was really intense. We had trouble following the plot but started laughing until we cried at the layers of the movie and the backstory. Everything seems to take on multiple meanings and everything seemed to have more structure and more layers. Time was moving both really fast and really slow, so that I was in the same moment forever but also the movie was dragging on. Visually, colors seemed more saturated, I had tracers with rainbows when I moved my hand in front of my face, and I was seeing patterns and tiny designs everywhere. I went out of the room to get some water, and the floor seemed to be breathing.
At around 8 we finished the movie and went to a different room, and the vibe became more quiet. We were all still talking and laughing a lot, but I kept having moments of introspection where I wondered how I could live a life in a structured way that I normally do. The shift from talking to introspection was abrupt and it felt like I was almost two people at once.

At about 9 we realized that it was thunderstorming and we wanted to go outside so we did. It was pouring and we stood in the rain and I felt like it was a prophetic experience. I became completely lost in the sensation of the rain on my skin. That was the peak of the trip.
After that we all went inside and into different rooms to change into dry clothes. It probably took me a half an hour to change clothes because I kept getting distracted by the different patterns everywhere and different sensations of having clothes on of being in various states of undress.
At around 9:45 we all met up and started talking. I felt a little more coherent and we had a meaningful conversation about politics and revolutions and structures. We kept talking and all became very emotional at times, and we could tell that the drug was wearing off.
Around 11 we were mostly sober and had been talking for a very long time. We went for a walk and watched the fireworks (it was 4th of July) and then we all went home.
At midnight I started trying to go to sleep, but I couldn’t fall asleep until about 2am.
It was a really fun trip, and the highlight for me was watching Boss Baby.
