DOSE:
5 - 20.6 mg oral 5-MeO-DPT (liquid)
BODY WEIGHT: 75 kg
Systematic Exploration of 5-MeO-DPT

Since I could not find any general summaries about 5-MeO-DPT (5-Methoxy-N,N-dipropyltrypamine), I wanted to systematically investigate this compound and compare the effects at various doses.

I am 28 years old, in good health and was not taking any medications or other drugs at the time of these experiments. For privacy reasons I omitted the year of the experiments, but they all took place within the same year. Throughout the reports, the Shulgin scale will be used to classify the intensity of the effects.

Preparation of doses: (Skip this part if you just want to read the trip-reports or the conclusion)

I obtained this compound from a reputable company offering proton NMR spectra, and I am therefore very confident that I ingested the above stated compound.

For the 5, 10 and 15 mg experiences, the doses were measured out as follows:

40 +/- 2 mg of the freebase of 5-MeO-DPT where weighed out using a jewelry scale which is accurate to 1 mg. Due to poor solubility of the freebase in water, an excess of lemon juice was added to a 500 ml beaker (about 50 ml of juice). So really, what I was consuming was the citrate salt of 5-MeO-DPT. The 5-MeO-DPT freebase was added to the juice and allowed to dissolve. Once dissolved, tap water was added to the beaker until there was a total of 400 +/- 10 ml of liquid in the beaker. In other words, the concentration was now 0.1 mg/ml to within the given errors.

The 5mg, 10mg, and 15mg doses in the reports below were measured out by measuring off 50 +/- 1 ml, 100 +/- 1 ml and 150 +/- 1 ml, respectively, using a graduated cylinder. Carrying the error gives that the consumed doses were 5 +/- 0.5 mg, 10 +/- 0.5 mg, 15 +/- 0.5 mg.

For the 20.6 mg experience, I had access to a high-accuracy laboratory-grade scale, accurate to within 0.1 mg (0.0001 g). The dose I measured out read 20.6 mg, so the dose for the 20.6 mg experience was 20.6 +/- 0.1 mg of the freebase which was later also converted to the citrate salt. In order to remain consistent with the previous doses, the 20.6 mg of freebase was added to an Erlenmeyer flask and treated with an excess of lemon juice to produce the citrate salt. More water was then added to the flask to dilute the liquid (about 100 ml).

First Trial:

Dose: 5 +/- 0.5 mg Date: 22 June

T=8:45 : Ingested the dose on an empty stomach. Quite bitter taste.

T=8:52 : Some light headedness and lower focus noted. Could be placebo.

T=9:09 : Something is happening. Increase in alertness. Very mild buzzing in ears.

T=9:17 : Definitely coming up at about a (+).

T=9:30 : At a clear (+). Effects at this point are mainly increased energy in the limbs. General feeling of stimulation. Open thoughts, emotionally more pliable. No visuals. Slightly more acute hearing.

T=9:45 : Quite euphoric. I fell energized and at peace. Still no visuals.

T=10:28 : Still feeling it and it has plateaued. Quite mild. I can still do everything I want to. Feeling content.

T=10:40 : Went to clean kitchen and make breakfast. Was able to go at it with a great deal of enthusiasm. High energy and feeling productive. Appetite not diminished.
High energy and feeling productive. Appetite not diminished.

T=11:10 : Finished a nice breakfast. Almost back to baseline, just feeling slightly more energized and in a very good mood. Something which felt like a “pinch” along the ridge of my skull. Some muscle “pinches”.

Second Trial:

Dose: 10 +/- 0.5 mg Date: 25 June

T=10:09 : Ingested 100ml of the liquid containing the 5-MeO-DPT citrate. Taste is very bitter. I have some cereal in my stomach. I also have a slight cold, not very strong.

T=10:38 : Something is here. Increase in energy. Alertness, restlessness.

T=10:47 : Still rising. Very smooth. At about a (+).

T=11:04 : Still rising. Again, quite euphoric, lots of energy. No visuals.

T=11:15 : Effects quite apparent now. A lot of energy. Looseness of the limbs psychedelic thoughts. Dry mouth. No visual.

T=11:34 : Probably at a (++). Effects seem stronger than last time, but not twice as strong. Strange sensations in my teeth, but I get this on other psychedelics too.

T=11:53 : Still at a (++). No visuals except for enhanced details on surfaces and brighter light. Less muscle and head discomfort than last time. Some stomach discomfort. Very energized and feeling happy. Increased body temperature (I did not actually check this).

T=12:25 : Still feeling energy in my body. Mood largely neutral. A bit starry eyed (blurry vision). Some craving for tobacco and cannabis apparent.

T = 12:44 : Acute effects have diminished. At a strong (+). Energy has turned into restlessness. Reading is not hindered (reading article).

T=1:45 : Some mild effects still apparent. Weak (+). Slight alertness. Ate some more cereal. Mood lift after having eaten.

T=2:00 : Smoked some low THC cannabis (THC < 1%) mixed with tobacco. Feeling less restless, quite relaxed.

T=2:34 : Feeling very relaxed and at peace now. Similar feeling to having just woken up after a long good rest. Not high energy.

T=2:54 : Feeling great!

T=3:33 : Ate a meal and am fully baseline now. Feeling good and a little bit tired. My body feels warmer than usual.

Overall this dose had much less of the physical discomfort of the previous (5 mg) dose.

Third Trial:

Dose: 15 +/- 0.5 mg Date: 23 July

T=11:22 : Measured out 3x50ml from the beaker of solution which had been prepared and stored in a refrigerator on the 22 of June. Mixed with strawberry lemonade to mask the taste.

T=11:26 : Drank the liquid. Still has a very bitter taste.

T=11:36 : Not sure if it’s placebo, but I’m quite elated.

T=11:45 : Definitely not placebo. Very spaced out and stimulated.

T=11:59 : At a (+++) or strong (++).

T=12:01 : Feeling a bit chilly.

T=12:03 : Still almost no visuals, but feeling very “loose” almost dissociating.

T=12:11 : Lot’s of buzzing energy. Still feeling like I’m dissociating a bit.

T=12:28 : Maybe a strong (++). Watching video and feeling a lot of love for the people in it. Feeling jelly loose in my body and mentally in a content spot. Very trippy, but virtually no visuals (except for enhanced colours and more defined edges).

T=1:12 : At a (++). No visuals. Tactile sensation feels more smooth, enhanced.

T=1:24 : Eating some pizza. Levels of hunger are unaffected, but food tastes great! Quite euphoric. Some definite entactogenic qualities.

T=1:41 : Finished eating. Back to a strong (+). Starting to feel warm and sweat a little. Feeling very content.

T=2:01 : Still very stimulated. Content. Some muscle cramping (+).

T=2:23 : Definitely down to (+). I am functional enough again. I could even interact with strangers again if I had to, but I hope I don’t have to.

T=3:03 : Still mentally buzzing and feeling intellectually stimulated. Close to baseline and I have a great feeling of “closure”. Wonderful. T=3:54 : Went for a walk in the garden. Very beautiful outside. Still feeling slightly spaced out but virtually back to baseline.

T=5:44 : Finished some mathematical work and got more results than I usually do in a week. New ideas came to me readily and flowed very freely. Still feel very intellectually stimulated. Could this be a potent cognitive enhancer at low doses, or at the tale-end of a full experience such as this one? I don’t know, but this should be investigated.

Fourth Trial:

Dose: 20.6 +/- 0.1 mg Date: 13 August

T=9:10 : Drank the liquid on a partially full stomach (half a bagel). Taste is pretty bitter and the lemon juice taste doesn’t help. Taste makes me a bit nauseous. Wash it down with orange juice, which helps.

T=9:16 : First alert noted (+/-).

T=9:37 : Feeling some clear effects now (+). Light headed and exited.

T=9:57 : Strong (+). Spaced out and overall content feeling. Still rising.

T=10:07 : Definitely at least (++). A bit chilly. Somewhat dissociative. Relaxed/calm headspace. Desire to lie down. Remarkable lack of visuals, except for changes in light and somewhat blurry vision.

T=10:36 : Lying in bed. Hard to focus. Pretty hypnagogic. Overall pleasant (++) or (+++). Still no real visuals. Feeling light and soft.

T=11:04 : I can still focus if I want to but easily drift in and out of a dream-like state (+++). Changes in short-term memory noted. Some very mild visuals: Surfaces breathing slightly. Enhanced colours/edges.

T=11:17 : Very relaxed. Don’t want to move a muscle.

T=11:30 : Getting hungry but don’t want to get up.

T=11:55 : Ate something (bagel). Still at (++/+++). Very content. Sweating a bit, but my toes are very cold.

T=12:22 : Mentally I feel more controlled again. Vision is unfocused enough that I really have to concentrate to be able to read words. (++) Regained more motor control.

T=12:43 : Back to a level where I could do practical things and complete work, including work requiring complex mental feats.

T=1:02 : Mild headache, but this is probably just due to the fact that I barely drank anything since the morning.

T=1:48 : Headache is gone. At most at a (+). Almost no tactile enhancement left. Still a bit cock-eyed. Mentally I feel pretty much baseline. Overall I don’t feel this dose took me much further than the 15mg dose. However, this time I do feel that it affected my short-term memory.

T=2:27 : While I am pretty much baseline again, I still feel a bit “fuzzy” in the head. Short-term memory is still decreased; this is quite unlike the lower doses. I would advise caution for anything at or above 20 mg.

T=4:37 : Had some food an hour ago and did some work. Still feeling (very) mild after-effects, but the short-term memory problem seems to have mostly disappeared (I think).

Conclusion and Summary:

After assaying this compound at various doses, the following patterns emerged:

One rather striking feature with this tryptamine is the almost complete lack of visuals.
One rather striking feature with this tryptamine is the almost complete lack of visuals.
There are no patterns, no morphing and no flowing. There was only a slight enhancement of colours, sharper edges but also sometimes blurriness similar to a beer or two. Only the very highest dose tried (20mg) produced any sort of (very mild) breathing of surfaces, similar to 3-4 mg of 5-MeO-MIPT.

Emotionally, this compound is very friendly and forgiving. I found it to be quite euphoric, and it imbued me with a very sunny and optimistic disposition towards life at most times. Additionally there was a certain mental stimulation present, which is also present in compounds such as LSD (and most other psychedelics). While the euphoria, optimism and increased energy where a very common feature, there was still room for malaise. The euphoria and energy were not amphetamine-like and certainly not as intense as, for instance, MDMA. It was also not anorexic in the least, I always had a good appetite. The emotional space was more of a euphoria with a psychedelic flavour, and it was very pleasant.

Tactile sensations were also enhanced greatly, with my skin feeling much softer and touch feeling better in general. This, together with the euphoria, definitely gives this compound some entactogenic qualities.

In terms of sexuality, this compound definitely did not interfere with any such actions. Everything was still working just as well, if not better, than sober, and as with most psychedelics, touch and sensation were greatly increased, making the sexual aspect enjoyable and workable overall. However, unlike say 5-MeO-MIPT, this compound does not seem to be an aphrodisiac inherently. One can steer the experience in that direction if one chooses to, but it doesn’t come as naturally as with other compounds such as 5-MeO-MIPT or even psilocybin. This may be due to the fact that mental imagery is not particularly vivid with this compound and most of the focus seems to be on the physical and intellectual aspect. So overall, not the best aphrodisiac, but ok if nothing else is available.

In terms of spirituality, 5-MeO-DPT seems to have far less to offer than say psilocybin or LSD. While insights about life and the world are certainly possible, it just generally lacks the depth of more traditional psychedelics. It does seem to enhance intellectual ability somewhat, at least at lower doses. I was able to do some mathematical work much more fluidly than usual (at the tail end of a 15 mg experience). At the 15 and 20 mg doses, the drug also had quite a dissociating character, almost like a low dose (about 4mg) of smoked 5-MeO-DMT.

There also seems to be a plateau that one reaches for the positive effects. I found that at 20mg, the effects were barely stronger than at 15mg, and the positive effects where largely at the same level. What I did notice however, was a persistent and somewhat worrying decline in my short term memory and ability to focus with the 20 mg dose. This effect persisted for several hours, even after the other effects had largely worn off. This may be a cause for concern and a warning about taking this compound up to too high of a dose. I did make a full recovery by the end of the day though.

Overall, this is a lovely and potentially very useful compound. The duration is about 4-6 hours. I would put its effects somewhere between a psychedelic and an entactogen.
I would put its effects somewhere between a psychedelic and an entactogen.
I would call it an intellectual psychedelic with strong entactogentic properties. I found that I got the most value out of the low to medium doses, particularly the 10 to 15 mg range. 20 mg range was a little too much for me with some mildly worrying side effects. But overall, what makes this compound so nice (for me) are the lack of visuals (which can be distracting) and the elated mood and mild stimulation.
