My best friend, whom I'll refer to as "Barney", also has psychedelic experience (much higher doses than I've ever took). I had been talking about the Half-Life series to Barney for around a week, hyping him up enough that he decided he wanted to play it. I had a tab of 1P-LSD set aside for the weekend

On Saturday I took a small dose of Kratom (1.5g), then left to pick Barney up and arrived back to the house at 3PM. Another friend of mine was over, hanging out with my brother. We'll call him "Victor". So the four of us talked for a bit, just hanging out as usual. I acquired the 1P-LSD from my room, booted up Half-Life, then put the tab under my tongue. At 4:30 I swallowed the tab, giving me half an hour of sublingual absorption.
5:15PM saw the start of the come-up, with that familiar sunken-eye/permagrin feeling creeping in. As the clock crept closer to 5:30 I began to see patterns emerge into the carpet, and my sense of space and time started to warp. Victor put on some eastern european music, one which stood out being "Soldat" by 5'Nizza. Victor's face had an effect much like "onion skins" in animation, where I could faintly see the previous "frame" of movement overlayed. Victor left at 6pm, leaving only Barney and I. This is where the Half-Life journey begins.
Barney and I had just both taken a bowl each when we returned to the computer. The visuals and thought loops were getting intense, seeing entire micro-universes within the barcode of a lighter. It felt as though I was wearing Gordon's HEV Suit, and that I had just arrived in Xen. I reached the peak right at the exact moment that Barney had made it to the "We've Got Hostiles" chapter, and all I saw was fractal patterns emerging on the desk, walls, even the trees outside. I took to a pen and paper and drew line after line, interconnected with each other to form a series of eyes in a 3 dimensional space. I took another bowl and when outside I realized how much better things were getting in my life since I started utilizing psychedelics for trying to open my mind and expand my horizons. The trip a week prior made me lose all interest in nicotine, made me want to cut down on Cannabis and start a taper for Kratom.

Truth be told in my mindset I wasn't the best of help for Barney when it came to the tougher puzzles, but he was damn good at persevering through even the most dire of circumstances. He's a Darksouls fan so I guess it's not surprising. A wave of euphoria hit me when he finished "Blast Pit", seeing the tentacle monster get completely vaporized is a good feeling, sober or not. One thing of note was that the game looked incredibly high-definition, albeit with breathing and flowing textures. I remember feeling sad about the Houndeye creatures as they reminded me of little dogs. The music sounded absolutely wonderful, as well as the sounds in general.
The time was 11:40, and Barney had reached the chapter "Residue Processing". He decided that he wouldn't finish it all in one sitting, which was understandable as he was on chapter 10 (of 18). I was still mildly tripping however, so when he left I hopped on the computer and checked out the Half Life Multiplayer mode. Before joining a server I decided to take ~4 grams of red vein Kratom to help me wind down for bed. The frantic/fast paced action blew me away but was ultimately too stimulating for trying to sleep, so I put on a movie. I slowly drifted to sleep in anticipation for the next day, and excitement for when the day comes that I visit Xen once again.
