First Time Ambien Use

My friend has a lot of trouble sleeping, and takes either lunesta or ambien every night. I curious about trying either, so she gave me a couple of ambien. Last night I was already pretty tired and didn't have to be up for at least 9 hours, so I decided to take one.

Since this was my first time, I wanted to stay awake long enough to be able to tell when it was starting to hit. I read in bed for a little, but after a couple pages I was pretty tired so I turned out the light and closed my eyes. As soon as I did that, though, it was like I was dreaming without being asleep, and this long epic story began to unfold under my eyelids. Plots from the book were in my 'dream,' as well as other totally insane stories that I am not imaginative to have come up with on my own. When I opened my eyes I knew where I was and that I was under the influence of the drug, but I still started talking to myself. An embroidered flower on my bedspread appeared to be attempting to peel itself off from the fabric and start dancing. 'you're moving!' I told it. The flower did not respond for obvious reasons... There were also these weird glow-y cloud-like shapes moving around my room by my head.

I called my boyfriend (sounded like a good idea at the time) and told him I was kind of hallucinating, and he told me to close my eyes and go to sleep. Closing my eyes did not put me to sleep, jut back into my half-dream state. My boyfriend called back a few minutes later, and I started trying to tell him that I loved him (which I'd never said before, so this probably wasn't the best time) and getting really frustrated and whiny.

I eventually fell asleep, although I'm not sure when. I woke up this morning before my alarm went off, but I pushed snooze for about half an hour. I'd heard you don't get groggy when you wake up after taking ambien, but I was still pretty tired.

I think I'd have to take this at least once more before deciding how I feel about ambien as both a sleep aid and a recreational drug.
