A multitude of consequences came together to make me take it. It started with me being bored and looking up all kinds of pharmaceuticals online. One of the floors sent down a bag of discharged marinol with three 5mg pills. The pharmacy's policy is to expire all medication requiring refrigeration, that have been sitting out for an extended period of time. I put them in the pile of discharged medication, and noted that it was a CIII scheduled medication. So looking up drugs, I typed the medication in and found it was analogous to the active ingredient in marijuana. This lead to contemplation of taking it, and a series of self-justifications ensued such as: 'All I ever do is work and go to school,' 'It's been weeks since I've even been intoxicated at all, not to mention months since I've smoked,' and so on and so forth.
So I decided I was going to go through with this, and eventually before my shift ended I decided to take another 2.5 mg pill to 'make it a little more intense.' At 11 when I got off work I decided to pop the beautiful, spherical pills.
It took around 45 minutes to really notice something, but I couldn't be sure of it. It felt like a slight, narcotic tingle. Since it didn't intensify, I attributed it to placebo. Out of nowhere, a thought popped into my head that made me realize I couldn't be 100% sure if I disposed of the wrapper properly; I wasn't sure I flushed it down the toilet. Whether this was because of paranoia or because it was in fact a truly, legitimate concern, I have no idea.
I rushed back to work, and checked the toilet. There was in fact nothing in there. I could relax now, and so I headed back home. I hopped in the shower, coming upstairs to my room to wind down, watch tv, and go to bed. The drug seemed to have a creeping effect... At first I wasn't sure if I was having a placebo effect or not, but over time (which I can't really quantify- perhaps an hour and a half) I was able to discern that I was in fact 'high.'
The high that marinol produced was not nearly as strong as smoking mid-grade weed. I didn't really feel the paranoia that is typical of marijuana. I can not tell whether this was because of the fear associated with being discovered smoking marijuana being detracted, or whether the pharmaceutical company toned it down. In its plus, it did enhance the experience of watching TV, and seems to last a long time (After feeling 'high' I was up for around two more hours before going to sleep-the marinol was still in full effect).
All in all, it wasn't worth the trouble of getting it. I was paranoid for a couple of weeks that I was somehow going to be found out. The experience really wasn't much to speak of, and it wasn't nearly as intense as a smoke session with good weed. Obtaining the legal stuff would get me in more trouble than actually getting the ILLEGAL stuff.
In summation, the marinol experience was similar to being high and not completely 'stoned' or 'blasted' while taking away the paranoia.
