A Cautionary Tale
Kratom
Citation:   Klint. "A Cautionary Tale: An Experience with Kratom (exp72321)". Erowid.org. Mar 7, 2018. erowid.org/exp/72321

DOSE:
  oral Kratom (daily)
BODY WEIGHT: 160 lb
I've been using kratom now for a couple of years. It began innocently, taking small doses on the weekend. Gradually, the number of dosages increased. In addition, the amount of each dose also increased as tolerance-levels dictated. Then, it became a once-a-day thing. Finally, it evolved into a twice-a-day habit.

I tried quitting several times, but found it impossible because I could not function at work or anywhere else. Withdrawl for me involved some of the same symptoms others report with one addition: insomnia. Kratom gives me great amounts of energy followed by a crash (I immediately fall asleep after the crash.) The other big symptoms for me include irritability and depression. It's quite miserable.

While trying to quit, I tried the following things:

1. Admitted it to someone who cared. Asked this caring soul to monitor me. When using high doses, a person with a watchful eye could tell by my beady-little-eyes.
2. Drink some other teas to fake myself out.
3. Kept myself occupied. This is the one that worked for me: I took a vacation.
