I know what you're thinking, 'This dosage is BS, but it wasn't a first time trial. I worked myself up to it over the course of a month. I had a back injury and was prescribed tramadol since it wasn't an actual opiate. The hospital had me on file as an ex-heroin junky. The doctor just kept refilling my script since it wasn't as hard of a substance as other known abused pain killers. My initial dose was 10, a total of 500mgs. And it was unbelievable. This from a non-opioid, wow. Anyway the next thing I know I was back to chasing that dragon and on one day I got the bright idea to take my entire 50 pill script. I passed out 2 hours in an went into a seizure. I was taken by ambulance to the ER but since they don't test for non-narcotics, they thought it was stress induced, and gave me 1000mgs. Of dilantin which caused a DVT (deep vein thrombosis) in my left arm. I spent a week in the cardiac ward hooked up to all kinds of monitors, with 2mgs of dilaudid given every 4 hours. I have to admit I did enjoy that part.

However, spending the next 6 months on blood thinners and monitoring levels to make sure I didn't either die from heart attack, pulmonary embolisim, or stroke was a real eye opener. And I've never touched it since. I didn't realize even if you build up your tolerance it doesn't also adjust your LD 50. This was the first drug I didn't research before trying, and wish I had.
