DOSE:
1 hit vaporized Salvia divinorum (extract)
BODY WEIGHT: 190 lb
PERSONAL DRUG HISTORY: Smoke tobacco and marijuana daily since I was 19 (I'm 24 now). Heavy drinker in college, but now only once or twice a month. Limited experience with mushrooms, ecstasy, prescription pills (Xanax, Vicodin, etc).

EXPERIENCE: I feel the need to preface this entire description by saying that my words will not be able to fully explain everything I felt, but here we go anyway...

Decided to try salvia after being unsuccessful when searching for pot one day. A friend and I went to one of our local smoke shops and purchased 1g of 10x strength salvia. Called another friend to try it with us, mostly just to have an extra sitter present in case things got a little too heavy.

After doing a little research of other people's experiences, we decided to use my small water bong, and to go purchase a butane torch lighter. After all of the supplies were ready, it was time to take off... I went first, deciding to sit with my feet dangling in the pool. Held it in as long as my lungs would allow, and exhaled. Within seconds, I was definitely feeling the effects. The entire pool became, to me, another dimension. Everything outside the water was still slightly familiar, but the pool itself seemed to turn into a strange, animated world (a-la Roger Rabbit's toon town). My eyes stayed focused on the small vacuum robot cleaning the bottom of the pool, and everything around me started to feel like a dream. But just as soon as it came, it went, and 2 minutes later I was 'back'. Still a little disoriented, but at least I knew who and where I was again. My two friends went next, and both reported similar experiences.

We still had enough left for each of us to do another hit, so we decided to venture indoors this time, to avoid wanting to jump in the pool while tripping. This time, I went last. A was up first, and decided she wanted music to help her be in a more relaxed and peaceful state. She ended up choosing Radiohead, but I cant remember which song. She said that the effects hit her almost immediately, which explains why she needed help finding her chair and sitting down. After about 7 minutes, she was 'back' and reported that she didn't have the type of reality-bending experience we had read about, but it did make her feel more relaxed and happy than she could remember being for some time. My other friend and I both had similar experiences, slightly more intense than the last time, but not what I would call a full-on trip. For me, it felt like i was attached to the chair, and the room i was in was slowly rotating forward. As soon as I got used to the feeling of rotating forward, the room would tell me that I was not going to be the one dictating the nights events, and would begin rotating in the opposite direction.

-------- -------- --------

A couple of days later, we decided to purchase a higher strength and try again. We purchased .5g of a brand that was organized by colors, rather than the 10x, 20x, etc ranking of other brands. We bought the blue, also called Infinity, which claimed to be the strongest available. . Further research into the product found that it contained 120mg per gram of salvinorin A, which puts its potency somewhere around 48x on the number scale.

This time, M went first, and decided to try his luck again sitting by the pool, with his feet in the water. This time, after exhaling, he sat in silence for 15-20 seconds, before simply saying 'Uh oh', pulling his feet out of the pool, and standing up. I asked if he was okay, and he looked at me like he had no idea WHAT I was. I asked if he needed to sit, and he said no, but the look on his face told me otherwise. He paced around slightly mumbling the phrase 'But why would I...?' over and over again. While walking, he accidentally stepped on his dog's foot, causing the dog to shriek, and make my friend look as if he had seen a ghost. He then stepped up onto the diving board of the pool, and looked as if his intentions were to jump right in, so I pulled him by the shirt to get him off of the diving board, and sat him down into a chair. Shortly afterwards, he ''returned'' and told us that initially, it looked like everything around him was being peeled away like old paint, revealing a black curtain and darkness. A shadowy figure was explaining to him that everything and everyone he knew was a lie. Not only was it all imaginary, but all of his friends, all of his family, even his pets, had been 'in on it' the entire time. He said he felt like Jim Carrey the moment he realizes his whole life was a lie in 'The Truman Show'.

Afterwards it was my turn. I chose to sit in a semi-reclined pool chair and have the song 'Kids' by MGMT playing on my laptop in the chair beside me. Seconds after exhaling, I felt a force pinning me to the chair, and I could not move. My eyes focused on the moon, which remained clear, but everything else around me began to blur and shoot past me as if I was taking off in some sort of rocket ship. Soon, the lights and sounds being produced by my laptop took on a different identity. My mind had forgotten that I had taken a gigantic hit of salvia just seconds earlier, and I was convinced that this light and sound was the cause of my disorientation. I could hear the music the entire time, but it was different. It felt to me as if a soft voice was giving me instructions on how to get myself to 'the other side'. The voice was telling me to 'control myself' and that 'all of my memories were fake' which turned out to be lyrics to the song I was listening to, but you would have been hard-pressed to convince me of this at the time. I wouldn't describe myself as being scared at this time, but I was definitely apprehensive because I could not comprehend what was happening to me. After deciding that the lights and music coming from my computer were the source of my problem, I mustered every ounce of strength and courage I had inside me to turn my head to my friend, point to the laptop, and say 'You need to close that. Seriously. Please. You have to help' She closed the laptop, but not entirely, so some light was still visible and the music was still playing. By this time, I was starting to come back. I felt like I had to move myself from the chair, but I couldn't move. Afterwards, my friends told me that I had in fact sat up and moved to the edge of the chair, but I had no recollection of doing so. Total time: 4 minutes. Felt like an eternity.

All in all, salvia is hands-down the most interesting and intense drug I've ever experienced. Most other drugs, even hallucinogens, still leave the user with the knowledge that they have taken a drug, and what they see and feel, however intense, is all part of the 'trip'. Salvia, however, makes you earnestly BELIEVE that everything you see and feel is not only real, but more real and all-encompassing than anything you'd experienced in your life. What you feel for those few minutes becomes your new reality, and your thoughts and feelings that you had before are gone. It almost feels like being in a dream, but much more vivid. It feels completely foreign and completely familiar at the same time.

I think next time, I will downgrade to the Red Salvia Zone (medium strength. The system goes, from weakest to strongest, Green, Yellow, Red, Purple, Blue). Definitely something I am interesting in trying again and understanding further.
