Almost one year ago, by luck (or lack thereof) I was introduced to a unique drug of epic proportions. I had no idea that what began as a small case of insomnia would soon result in the most terrifying experience of my entire life. As a child, I had several near-death experiences, and not one of them could possibly amount to what this incredibly potent drug did to me.

After almost an entire week of sleepless nights, my mother decided to give me one of her sleeping pills, unaware of the consequences. I swallowed the tablet, and was instructed to get in bed immediately and try to sleep. This entire experience occured long before I had any knowledge of the drug, giving me a reason to be somewhat nervous. I attempted to close my eyes several times in the next ten minutes. Still no sleep. I tossed and turned, hoping to eventually fall asleep, but had no such luck.

A total of fifteen minutes had passed when the effects of the drug began to hit me. For thirty seconds I felt light-headed, and suddenly, the hallucinations struck me like a nuclear bomb. I was now immersed in the world of Ambien. I pulled the blankets around me as I saw a number of large men walking aimlessly around my bedroom. These images faded with time, and were replaced with strange noises that I cannot accurately describe. I was terrified; I quickly rolled out of my bed and was simultaneously burdened with the weakening effects of the drug. I stumbled out of my room, nearly falling several times. Once out of my room, I began heading for my brother's room, seeking comfort. As I neared his room, I witnessed a sight which haunts me to this day. No more than five feet away from me, I saw an evil looking little girl, similar to the character from the popular horror film, 'The Ring'. The image was so strong and vivid that I would have sworn she was real. I quickly stumbled into my brother's bedroom, waking him. Before I had time to explain my current situation, he had already pushed me out of his room and told me to go to bed. I began to feel more comfortable walking, so I quickly jogged to my parents' room, where I hoped to be free of these horrifying illusions. I woke my mom as I crawled into her bed. She asked me what was wrong, and I mumbled something about my current state of mind. After being interrogated for many minutes, I finally managed to describe what was happening to me. She wrapped me in a blanket on her bed, and attempted to calm me. I continued to hallucinate for what seemed like hours, and was eventually talked into a short night's sleep. The hallucinations after entering my parents' room are still unclear to me, as I cannot remember much of that terrifying night.

Since then I have taken Ambien twice, never once experiencing anything close to that unforgettable night.
