DOSE:
40 mg oral Pharms - Paroxetine
BODY WEIGHT: 137 lb
I have been on Paxil for a year now. It all started when I got sick with Addison's Disease (Adrenal Failure). One of the first things they told me is that I had 'panic disorder'. It may have been then case as my adrenals were being destroyed and as my endochrinologist said 'dumping adrenaline' into my body. Any case, I have been talking with my therapist and have been trying to ween off this crap. I'm on a steady regiment of steroids now to regulate my addison's and didn't feel the Paxil would be necessary any more.

I was getting scared that perhaps coming off the meds was letting this 'panic disorder' return. I'm relieved to see others having these side effects.

From my experience, I stopped taking my Paxil cold turkey... Not a 'wise' thing to do, but I figured I'd grin and bear the withdrawls every few days to get it out of my system faster. I haven't been able to go maybe 4 days without feeling like I HAVE to take it.

The symptoms start off as a strange head sensation, which over maybe a few hours turns into head rushes when I turn my head. The most intense point I have been is getting the brain 'zaps' which is really hard to describe. I see how it could easily have been thought to have been panic because it just seems like my body is hypersensitive to any kind of movement or expansion of energy. When I get to the point of 'zaps' and sometimes sweats, is when I give in and break up a Paxil pill and take maybe a quarter of it. It takes a few hours but soon it takes the edge off.

I just can't imagine weaning off such a high dose of paxil over the course of months or maybe a year. Torture is what that sounds like. Either way, it's my way and works for me. I'd rather get the blood levels out of me quicker. I have found the whole experience of being on Paxil to be somewhat of a hinderance. I wasn't destructive or anything but I certainly lost any sort of drive to achieve anything. I just kind of existed and stopped living. I didn't care about my family, social life, my career or anything that matters. I'll be damned if I lose any more time over it.
