First to give you a brief description of myself I have been using opiates and other drugs for approximately 5 years on and off.
I have been using opiates and other drugs for approximately 5 years on and off.
I went on a 6-month Heroin binge that left me with virtually nothing. No job, no money, no support, nothing. My parents reluctantly took me to a Doctor who specializes with Suboxone management. I started the Suboxone maintenance program and was on it for over year. During that time I did no drugs whatsoever. I was a daily marijuana smoker and that habit stopped entirely. Suboxone takes away the urge to use opiates and for me in this case, other drugs. I was feeling great.
After almost 2 years I decided to wean myself off of it WITHOUT being under a doctors care. I thought of it as being a crutch, that Suboxone is only replacing Heroin. After I was totally off of Suboxone it took me about 2 weeks to relapse.
After I was totally off of Suboxone it took me about 2 weeks to relapse.
I contacted my doctor and I am now back on Suboxone. Just let me tell you how amazing I feel. I have NO urges to do any drug whatsoever. It truly is an amazing feeling not being dependent on an illegal drug.
My doctor explained to me that being an opiate dependent person is an actual disease. He compared it to someone having high blood pressure. In order for that person to live a normal life, that person would need to take a pill. It is the same thing for opiate dependent people. NOT to say that I need to be on Suboxone for the rest of my life but think about it, one pill can take away all the urges and pain that surround using.
I have now been back on Suboxone for 2 weeks and I have not done or had the urge to use anything. Needless to say, Suboxone is not the one pill wonder. I need support to get through this. I remember that being an addict is a life long illness. It took me awhile to understand that, but as you can clearly see from my story it is a life long illness.
I lost hope but now with Suboxone, I can live a drug free life and actually enjoy life.
