An amount of Syrian Rue seeds were ground to a powder and set aside separately.
At a festival, late at night in a tent, a few of us were chilling out when I decided to try the Cebil powder. First we tried smoking it - in a pipe I placed a gauze, a small amount of tobacco to prevent the powder from falling through, then an equal mix of Cebil and the powdered Syrian Rue. (The amount of Cebil was between 1 and two seeds).
The smoke was bearable but it was hard to smoke more than half a small pipe at any one time. The effects were instantly noticeable, but not strong by any means, even with more pipes and holding the smoke for long periods. A friend described it as 'blunting all the edges' but nothing more - a good description.
I then decided to try insufflating a line of about 2 seeds worth. A friend had the same amount. The powder was easy on the nose (rather surprisingly) but did make me want to sneeze. I was careful not to go too hard, to avoid a drip down the neck as I was conscious of the well-known nausea associated with this substance. Within 1 minute or two I felt that I was going to be sick, so exited the tent. I then purged uncontrollably for what seemed like a long time - empty retches and some liquid (I had eaten almost nothing all day). What made me stop purging was a friend who appeared and poured water over my face.
Now I found I couldn't speak properly and the world was altered. This must have been 5 or 10 minutes in, or could have been just a few - time distorted. The dark evening brightened and the grass became luminous, making itself into beautiful patterns of green. All surfaces changed in fact, patterns forming on them, their texture changing, their colour becoming brighter. I went back into the tent and began to enjoy the altered world - people's faces all covered with patterns and colours, their textures and features changing depending on their internal characters. My speech was slowed, I felt good, warm, happy, amazed with the world around me.
My speech was slowed, I felt good, warm, happy, amazed with the world around me.
This was short lived though, and within 30 minutes or so I was back to baseline reality. The purge really hit me hard and the next day I was quite weakened, but mentally in a good state.
Is the trip worth the purge? For me, not quite. But I may be tempted again some day.
Of note here is the following: My friend experienced no nausea and hardly any effects. He had a second line, same size as the first. Still no nausea and some vague effects, but nothing more than smoking gave him. Three others also tried. This time with instructions from me about not snorting too hard, not sniffing too hard afterwards, then blowing their noses after 10 minutes or so to avoid the Cebil making its way down their throats. One person felt sick, but not much (a small retch), and had some 'gentle' visual changes and mental effects. One person felt a body load and a rising sense of change, but it never went very far, she had no nausea. One person had larger mental effects with a change of reality for 20 minutes or so, no nausea, no visual effects.
Final thoughts: Why did this affect me so dramatically, and not my friends? Was it the purge? I think perhaps I also didn't do enough, or my preparation was incorrect. The calcium sulfate - is this a good choice? It was certainly easy on the nose. Also I'm particularly resistant to psychedelics - requiring double what other people normally take to get any effect at all normally. My other friend is similar in this respect. I also didn't sense any 'entity' as many people do, but have met spirits before (example on ayahuasca)
I didn't dive deep enough for this plant to contact me properly...
