Back in '97 my sister-in-law (at the time) gave me a big bottle of McNeil Ultrams. She had major back problems and had been prescribed pretty much everything. She didn't like the opiates. Made her nauseous, and to my benefit, she would usually hand them over to me. Anyway, back to the trammies, she said they were “super strong” and she couldn't handle them. I'd never heard of them and figured I'd give them a try. The first few times I took a few got no effect. Then one night, I tried 2 or 3, and that familiar warm glow came over me. I was up all night thinking great things, nodding in and out and just feeling amazing.
That was the beginning. Over the past 13 years, on and off, I've been a regular. Most recently I'd had a year long habit, generally dosing 200mg in the AM, then another 250mg-300mg in the evening. At this point, I have a love hate relationship. I hate having a daily habit. I hate ordering online. I hate having to wait if I'm out. In general, I don't like to depend on them.

What do I love? I think it's a great substance in general. It's relatively safe. I think it's a great short-term antidepressant. I think it's great for general pain.
The withdrawal? I've gone through several. A taper over a week works fine with little discomfort. Cold-turkey sucks, but with lots of water, vitamins, exercise, diphenhydramine, and positive thinking, I can be back to normal in about 3-5 days.
I think this is best reserved to 2 to 3 times a week. Taking several days in a row will result in a day of depression. Taking it at night will result in bad sleep.
