Doc prescribed 30mg per day at bedtime for insomnia. The effects take a bit to manifest, but the urge to sleep quickly become apparent. The recreational value is limited, but it all depends on how long I am able to fight the sleepiness. If I can remain conscious, there is a long (10hr+) duration or numbness and slowness of thought.

Supposedly the elimination half-life is anywhere from 40-250 hours, so this makes an ideal medication from withdrawals of the shorter-acting benzodiazepenes. I was on xanax multiple times daily for a year, so when I ran out I took <10mg doses of flurazepam each night and felt reasonably normal throughout the following days of what would have been nasty withdrawals.

Note: if taken with alcohol, I can find it difficult to ascertain what had happened during these periods. Otherwise, for the most part, this benzo has been great for insomnia and/or xanax/valium withdrawals.
