I personally took the drug for 7 months, which was plenty of time for me to get my life together and develop healthy habits. After I asked my doctor to taper my dose (to his dismay; suboxone doctors hate losing patients) so I could be off the drug in time for college classes that were starting soon, he told me to take 1 mg less every 2 weeks. Already having tapered myself down to 4 mg from the 16 mg per day I was being given in rehab, I thought this would be easy.

The first few days were not bad at all, but by day 4 the sickness was getting worse and worse to the point I couldn't do anything other than sit in bed, eat half a bowl of noodles and sweat my ass off. Any thought of doing normal things like driving were out the window. With classes starting in less than a week and no end in sight after a week of being off of the drug, I was forced to get back on so I could remain productive for school.
And that is suboxone in a nutshell. Just another instrument to trap us in our cycle of addiction. I will get off one day when I have the time to endure the pain, which supposedly lasts a month or more for someone who has taken this drug as long as I have.
The pills take about 45 minutes to dissolve, and I can't talk during that time or I waste some of it. The strips dissolve in 30 minutes or less and don't taste as bad.
