170 mg | oral | MDA | (powder / crystals) |

T+ 6:00 | oral | Pharms - Diazepam |
BODY WEIGHT: | 245 lb |
T=0:30 – 1:30 Slight visual queues occur first, reminiscent of MDMA: colors are slightly more dynamic. Otherwise no effects are felt. However, over the next hour a slow developing body high and visual high intensified. The body high struck me as MDMA like, but less harmonious, less pleasant, fraught with more anxiety, I thought, due to the “speedy” body effects: jaw clinching, more nervous energy than euphoria, and overall a subtle discomfort. This seemed like a slower and clumsier come-up than I had experienced with MDMA. Nonetheless, a visual high also intensified during this time, characterized less by breathing, although there was some breathing, and more by a sort of vertigo. Initially it caused a slight dizziness, but nothing profound. Instead, the idea of vertigo as a visual perspective change, as opposed to the heavy breathing and trails of 2C-I for instance, struck me as profound. At this same time, more rush-like sensations began to occur, euphoria seemed to “catch up” to the speedy effects producing a more harmonious and comfortable high, ecstasy-like, but with a constant vertigo that did not cause dizziness, but rather altered dimensions of objects and space.
T=2:00 – 6:00 This peak was long, harmonious, comfortable, and dynamic in terms of the cross-section between visual and body high. Ecstasy-like in body, and unique in terms of the psychedelic vertigo. The mental interference was nice as well. There was less emoting than with ecstasy, although still some inhibitions had been blown away. Conversation was enjoyable, punctuated with joyous groaning and praise for the profound and enjoyable roll.
Early on during the peak, I grabbed a cold Corona Light from the refrigerator and enjoyed it as it went down. However, while it might have been a coincidence, the beer seemed to cause a dramatic body temperature change for me. I began to feel hot and began to sweat profusely. This minor speed bump didn’t do much to tarnish the wonderful high, and I ended up counting the potential cost and having another beer a little later in the evening. I think it took away more than it added however, especially if it caused the body temperature change.
T=6:00 – 10:00 The come-down was slow. Euphoria and speedy elements fell out of harmony again, with a bodily anxiety returning. The speediness also seemed to keep me up when I would have preferred to go to sleep. My jaw hurt from the grinding. During this time I took a quarter of a Valium, which took some of the edge off, but ultimately did not overcome the speedy disharmony of the come-down. The bodily and visual and mental effects wore off very slowly over this period of time. Like 2C-I, the length seemed to overstay its welcome. Eventually I was able to get to sleep.
Other thoughts: Incidentally, I now believe that what I had 20 years ago was MDA. I was much lighter and must have taken a large dose. I can see how my unpreparedness for a psychedelic trip plus the vertigo could cause mental confusion and spark hallucinations. I’ll never know for sure, but the matter is somewhat settled for me. The dose this evening, however, while powerful, was much more pleasant, expected, and harmonious.
Those who have said that MDA is a long trip are correct. The edgier come-up and come-down can be cumbersome and clumsy and long, filled with a bodily anxiety and relative lack of euphoria. But the peak is so delightful and is worth the trouble with adequate planning and expectation. I liken it to climbing a mountain. Climbing up and shuffling down can be difficult, but it is all worth it when you melt into a rock at the peak and peer over an expansive world from great heights and with a new and unique perspective.
