I am writing this as a general summary of my experience with kratom over the past year.
During this time I have been using 4 to 8 grams of kratom, 1 to 4 times each week. The kratom comes in gel capsules, about .5 grams in each capsule.
Background: I take antidepressants and xanax for anxiety. I do not know if/how kratom interacts with these medications, but I have not experienced any medical side effects. I also use marijuana, nitrous oxide, and oxycodone (and occasionally other opiates) recreationally, but lately I have been using kratom more often. I do not drink alcohol.
This report is being written under the influence of kratom, so please excuse any errors.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
When I use kratom I generally take 4 grams in the evening. I have tried increasing the dosage to get better effects, but I actually tend to have less of a response to higher doses.
I notice slight effects within about 15 minutes. I begin to feel a bit more relaxed and my body feels heavier. These effects aren't very apparent, and can be ignored if I focus on something else.
After 1 hour the experience becomes much more intense. I experience a body high that I can only compare to morphine. My head begins to feel very heavy and my vision becomes blurred. If I walk I tend to stumble slightly. Thinking in a linear fashion becomes difficult. (This is the stage I am at as I am writing this).
Around this time my skin becomes very itchy, again something that I have only experienced before with morphine.
About 30 minutes after the stronger effects start (1 hour 30 minutes after ingestion) the mere act of breathing becomes intensely pleasurable. Visually, objects often appear to have a 'glow' behind them. At this point the whites of my eyes are usually red, although less so then when I use marijuana. If I try to do something I tend to forget what I am doing in the middle of doing it. For example, when the kratom first takes effect I often have the urge to play the guitar, but by this point in the experience I seem to forget how to play.
Approximately 2 hours after consuming the kratom I am only able to lie down. Reporting my experiences after this stage becomes difficult. From what I can remember, I usually enter a sort of dream-state. If I keep my eyes open, occasionally streaks of colored light flash across my vision. At this stage listening to music can be enjoyable, but sometimes it can be too intense; sometime I just need to be in the quiet.
Anything after the 2 hour mark is almost entirely lost to memory. Often I wake up 5 hours later, having fallen asleep on the floor with my clothes and shoes on.
The day after kratom use I experience a strong headache which usually lasts the entire day. Thinking clearly is still difficult the next day, and I usually have very low energy. Sometimes a bit of the euphoria carries over to the following day as well.
Aside from the hangover, the only major uncomfortable side-effect of my kratom use has been the intense itching.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
In general I have found kratom to be a very pleasurable plant to use. I prefer one brand - I have tried kratom from other sources and experienced no effects.
If I use kratom for many days in a row and then suddenly stop I experience intense anxiety, depression, and a runny nose.

Kratom is an excellent plant, but should be used with care because of the possible side effects.
