My partner was prescribed Tramadol for a neck injury. The pain passed after a few days and I appropriated the rest of the Tramadol.

I'm also on lamotrigine (an anti-convulsant) and Xanax, both on a daily basis, legally prescribed. I figured these two meds would prevent me from any possibility of seizures.

The first day I took 200mg of Tramadol and got a nice buzz. I felt a slight opiate high (I've used other relatively weak opiates in the past, mostly codeine, but at the time I took the Tramadol, it had been two years since I last took codeine, so I had no lingering tolerance). I also felt a mildly 'speedy' feeling. Depression and anxiety disappeared completely.

The second day I took 200mg in the evening, and this time the effect was much weaker, so I took another 100mg after about an hour. Although I took Tramadol with food, I became slightly nauseated. Once the nausea passed I got a decent buzz. I had rather severe insomnia that night, and the following morning I had a migraine and felt nauseated. I ended up vomiting all over my bed when I was still half asleep, which freaked me out more than a little. I hadn't eaten in 12 hours or so, and the fact that my stomach wasn't even close to being empty also was disconcerting.

A couple of days later, I took 300mg at one time. I had no nausea at all. I had a slight pleasant buzz, but not as much as the previous two doses. I had insomnia again that night.

On the fourth day, I took 350mg. I became slightly concerned about seizures as I felt jumpy. But when the buzz faded (quite quickly) I took 1.5 mg of Xanax just in case. That day, I nodded off while sitting at my computer desk (this is not at all typical for me). I went to bed and slept for 15 hours straight.

I waited a week to take more, and started with 400mg. I felt the exact same level of buzz as I had at 200mg previously, but it went away after an hour. I was kind of disappointed and topped up with another 100mg two hours later. I also took Xanax with that dose. I became extremely itchy after I took the second dose, and the buzz was gone quickly, so about an hour later, I took another 150mg. I didn't feel sleepy and the buzz faded really fast even after topping up with the last 150mg. At this stage I'd finished an entire sheet from a blister pack, and the last dose had no effect other than increased itchiness. I decided it was a waste to take so much for so little effect, so I wouldn't bother doing it again.

I got a tolerance to the buzz so quickly, I'm not going to bother with Tramadol in the future, other than for periodic use as a painkiller. The slight buzz is really not worth it, considering the potential risk and the fact that I built a tolerance to it so quickly.
