These photos were taken in the 1980s in the mountains above the Peruvian village of Makahuasi. There is exceptionally dense growth of Trichocereus pachanoi (San Pedro) on the hills leading up to this ceremonial center.

The ancient stone meditation huts are on top of the mountains above the tree line. Huachuma, San Pedro shamans come here from all over the Andes to recharge their powers. The top photo is of a large Huachuma temple and the bottom shows two small temples. Apparently, the temples are often used by individuals for solo rituals.
