Abstract
FROM the modified leafy stems of Opuntia ficus indica (L.) Mill, mescaline, tyramine and N-methyltyramine were isolated and identified. A mucilage was prepared and studied. From the flower petals, the flavinoids penduletin, kaempferol, luteolin. quercitrin and rutin were isolated and identified. The fruits contain more than 8 85% w/w of sugars composed of pentoses, hexoses, hexuronic acids and polysaccharides. In addition organic acids were identified accompanied by ascorbic acid which is present in a 0.094%.
