Abstract
LSD and Ecstasy MDMA are halluIcinogens and stimulants, according to pharmacological classification. The hallucinogens comprise a broadly defined class of drugs that cross phar
macological boundaries. These drugs are grouped together as much for historical reasons as for their psychological effects. By strict definition, the hallucinogens alter and distort
perceptions in space and time. A hallucination is a false perception, and these drugs induce exaggerated and 'unreal' sensory phenomena including visual, auditory, and tactile hallucinations. These perceptions originate internally from drug-induced neurochemical
changes in the brain and, as in hallucinations, project onto an external reality.1
