A contorted text which goes out of its way to try to show that even moderate recreational use of “sensual drugs” is more harmful than the medical use of the same substances. The authors define “sensual drugs” as those which “give the user a strong sense of pleasure”, including amphetamine, cocaine, opiates, alcohol, barbiturates, inhalants, LSD, mescaline, psilocybin, and cannabis. Their primary point seems to be that perceived benefits of psychoactive use are illusory while harms (even if seemingly absent) are ever-present. The arguments are framed as scientific but are pseudo-science at best and just wrong in many cases. It earned it’s 1.5 stars because it is quite readable, but only someone very sophisticated in the field would be able to separate fact from fiction. Very one sided. Not recommended.
