Abstract
The effect of quipazine and LSD on monoamines in the rat striatum was studied. Male Wistar rats (120-215 g) received quipazine (Miles-Ames 5 mg/kg) or LSD (Spofa, 0.05 mg/kg) i.p. At the time of its peak behavioral effect, quipazine caused an elevation of striatal dopamine (DA, 23$0) and depressed 5-HT by 37%. LSD at the time of its maximum activity produced effects different from those of quipazine, it did not affect DA or 5-HT, but depressed levels of 5-hydroxyindoleacetic-acid (5-HIAA) by 29% and noradrenaline (NA) by 18%, When its behavioral effect disappeared levels of NA, 5-HT and 5-HIAA were depressed by 19%, 28% and 47% respectively.
